Dear Silver Travellers

It’s Gold for Silver Travel Advisor! We were absolutely delighted to win the Gold Award for Best Travel Reviews Website at the prestigious British Travel Awards last week where Debbie was thrilled to receive the trophy at a very sparkly event at Battersea Evolution. What is so wonderful and makes our job so rewarding, is that it’s all down to you, our members, who voted for us! Thank you very much indeed. The Silver Towers team have been celebrating, in a mature way, of course. And congratulations to all our many partners who also won Awards, it was a bumper success all round.

And after that early Christmas gift, we are also jolly pleased to have put the latest edition of The Silver Traveller magazine to bed, which is where Jennie plans to head for a day or two after a few late nights at the printing press. If you’ve previously received a copy, the latest version should pop through your letterbox automatically by 3 January. We’ll let you know next month how to get the magazine if you’re not on the list. We think it’s a jolly good read, with one of our favourite people on the cover!

And whilst it feels a bit early to be saying it, we’d like to wish you all a fabulous Christmas wherever you are. Here’s to another exciting year at Silver Towers, we’ll be 8 years old next February. We so enjoy bringing you the best information and advice for mature travellers. Go on, take a look and pick a dream holiday for 2019.

Eat your heart out at sea

You might be forgiven for thinking a cruise under canvas with Star Clippers would ignore the finer things of life. Not so as food writer, Nick Henley discovered; "There is the pull of the lunch buffets and these are simply irresistible. For me these were quite unexpected but were a highlight worth planning my day around. A little less sightseeing and history and a little more lunch I say!" Remember breakfast and dinner too, we say.

This little island packs a punch

Less than an hour from mainland Britain, Jersey is perfect for a short break, with a touch of ‘abroad’ and comforting echoes of home. What could be better? Many of us can remember the lovely Jim Bergerac, played by John Nettles, solving the island’s crimes. To step further back in time, you can visit the Maritime Museum and Occupation Tapestry; Mont Orgueil Castle; Elizabeth Castle; La Hougue Bie Neolithic site and the War Tunnels.
